What Allan’s Pool Shop Pool Technician Does -  Step-by-Step Green Pool Treatment

  1. Remove the Pool cleaner from the pool
  2. Clear Debris & Clean Filter: Remove leaves with a scoop and clean your filter (backwash sand filters or clean cartridge filters) to ensure maximum flow.
  3. PH and Alkalinity Adjustment: Test and adjust pH to 7.0–7.4 and Alkalinity to 80–120 ppm. Proper pH ensures the chlorine kills algae rather than just being wasted.
  4. Brush Surfaces: Thoroughly brush walls and floor to loosen algae.
  5. Shock the Pool: Use a high dose of shock treatment (double or triple dose) at night to avoid sun burn-off.
  6. Add Clarifier  :Add a quality clarifier to help the filter to catch microwaste
  7. Run Pump Continuously: Run the filter 24 – 48 hours a day until the water is clear.
  8. Add Algaecide: Add a quality algaecide to kill spores.
  9. Vacuum & Clean Again: Once the algae dies and turns grey/white, vacuum the sediment (ideally on ‘waste’ setting) and clean the filter again
